While clear brackets are not easily stained by drinks, food, or smoking, the clear elastic ties that hold the arch wire to the brackets can stain. While clear braces are certainly tough, they are made from a different material and unlike traditional metal braces, the material can crack or chip. So, if you play contact sports where your mouth and jaw are likely to be hit, you may want to consider traditional braces, Invisalign* or a mouth guard.
